Three-Trunk Driftwood Cat Tree

Three driftwood trunks rise from one heavy turned-wood base, each topped with a deep faux-fur perch at its own height, so a cat can climb from the floor to a full stretch across a piece that reads as sculpture first and cat tree second.

Each trunk is real driftwood gathered along the Pacific Northwest shoreline and dried slowly, so no two trees are ever the same. The wood keeps its pale, sun-bleached grain and the worn hollows the tide left behind, then takes a finish of natural oils that lift the figure without hiding it. Nothing here is painted or veneered. What you see is the wood the ocean shaped.

The three perches sit at 32, 40 and 60 inches and run up to 24 inches across, wide enough for a cat to sprawl rather than balance. Each one is soft-padded under a thick faux fur that holds warmth, and they cantilever off the trunks at angles, so a cat reads the tree as a set of branches to move between instead of a stack of identical shelves. The turned and stained hardwood base keeps all of it planted through the launch and the landing.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Because it is built around found driftwood, only one exists, and when it is gone the next will have its own shape.
