The Artisan Post is built in Devon around the natural contours of a solid oak trunk, with one resting spot at the top. That spot is either a hand-woven wicker basket bed or a solid oak platform, lined with sheepskin in otter brown or cream, or a puff ball bed in coffee or cream.

Choose the basket style, taper, armchair, or cave, and a handmade Fluff Ball or Rodney Rat toy. An optional solid oak scratcher with 12mm sisal can be added depending on the piece. At 10.25kg it stands firm on adjustable feet and arrives fully assembled.

Sophisticated Scratch is a small family workshop in Devon, England, at work since 2017. Each piece is cut and built to order by hand from sustainable English oak, so the wait is a little longer than a mass-market post and no two are quite alike.

Why oak and sisal

Solid oak gives the weight that keeps a scratcher from tipping when a cat throws itself at it, and the sisal rope is the texture cats actually want to work. The natural oak limbs mean the grain and shape vary from one to the next, which is the point.
