Made in Devon from solid English oak in a medium tone finished with natural oils. A black resin inlay fills the wood's natural cracks and gives the base its dark, marbled line.
It stands 81cm, tall enough for a full stretch, with 12mm sisal covering a 45 by 33cm area. Five adjustable legs steady it on any floor, and the post detaches for the re-sisal service when the rope wears down.

Sophisticated Scratch is a small family workshop in Devon, England, at work since 2017. Each piece is cut and built to order by hand from sustainable English oak, so the wait is a little longer than a mass-market post and no two are quite alike.
Why oak and sisal
Solid oak gives the weight that keeps a scratcher from tipping when a cat throws itself at it, and the sisal rope is the texture cats actually want to work. The natural oak limbs mean the grain and shape vary from one to the next, which is the point.
