The post is oak, oiled to bring out the grain, and wrapped in 12mm sisal over a 45 by 35cm area for a surface cats can dig into. It rises from a heavy oak and blue resin base with a high-gloss danish oil finish that holds it firm during a good scratch.
A soft handmade Rodney Rat hangs from the top on strong sisal to pull cats in for a pounce. This is a one-off piece, so the one pictured is the one that ships.

Sophisticated Scratch is a small family workshop in Devon, England, at work since 2017. Each piece is cut and built to order by hand from sustainable English oak, so the wait is a little longer than a mass-market post and no two are quite alike.
Why oak and sisal
Solid oak gives the weight that keeps a scratcher from tipping when a cat throws itself at it, and the sisal rope is the texture cats actually want to work. The natural oak limbs mean the grain and shape vary from one to the next, which is the point.
